DAMARA-PUNCH ON TRACE AFRICA

Dixon also known as Digub has recently been welcomed by Trace Africa Music channel. We as a nation were thrilled for him for this magnitude of the achievement. This is the first time a, Damara punch music gets this level of achievement. The song that is currently making waves on Trace is titled /Gui !nas /guisa meaning (only once). Dixon explained the message behind the title is about a man who is patiently waiting for a chance to be with his beautiful lover, for one last or more time. “He is quite shy and is waiting for his lover to be alone so that he can make his move” He added. We could not help but invite Dixon for a one on one regarding his recent accomplishments and here is what transpired.
Dixon started by explaining that, Damara Punch or Ma-/Gaisa is one of his strongest genres although, he also considers himself as a versatile artist. "I am not sure if it is the first
Ma-/Gaisa song making to the Trace Africa platform but what makes this special is that it is my first Ma /Gaisa video to have premiered on Trace Africa".

He added that Trace Africa welcoming Namibian content tops it off, he said, "it will encourage more artist to be themselves and do music that is more rooted. This might also change the mindset of Namibian as a whole to embrace more of our own.

(WB): How did you receive the big news?
"I just remembered my team saying that they have submitted the video to a TV station and the next moment, a fan sent me a video clip of my video featuring on Trace Africa, I was so thrilled and humbled at the same time that Trace Africa accepted an authentic Namibian genre of music, it really means a lot to me, my fans and our culture"

Dixon further shares that there are requirements when an artist would dream of having their music played on Trace Africa, he explained, "They mostly look at the music and the video quality. The cool thing about my video is that it was shot in 4K format, so that made it a bit easier to be approved. It is, however, quite a challenge to raise a budget for a good music video here in Namibia because music talent does not really receive the much-needed support. We are just working extremely hard to make things happen

The video features Patrick. A young and talented man who dresses up as Bernice and boyfriend Patrick and delivers an everyday couple lifestyle in Katutura, with the aims to make the audience laugh and learn a thing or two. Dixon shares how the idea derived and how it was like working with this gentleman. "The idea started when my manager called me around 03:00 am while I was still fast asleep telling me about this crazy idea of matching Namibian music and local comedy. I then understood his vision and the rest is history". 'I must say this was the most fun video I have ever shot; Bernice and Patrick are brilliant they kept us on the floor giggling, even the video director Namzee Brown who had to pause the shoot at times'. "My management was very impressed with Patrick’s overall professionalism and conduct".

The /Gui !nas /guisa  meaning (only once) track comes from a 15 tracked album titled; “Show Me Your Heart”. The album is a dedication to the fans. Dixon explained “It's a feel-good album. I went red for love, just to show my appreciation to the people who've had my back since day one.”

The album according to Dixon took 3 years to be perfected and it speaks for itself. However, there are no collaborations or featuring on the album. The award-winning artist said that he wanted to work alone, to tell his story with no added voices. "This is my first album with no collaborations because I simply did me and worked hard to give a 100% of me to the people who love what I do.”

Dixon is currently working with Ngoma Drums and he promises nothing but tons of entertainment for the yet to be seen group, "I am currently busy putting together something nice for my boys Ngoma Drums. They are the new wave that Namibia is yet to feel and respect".

The artist further stated that in the near future, a collaboration with Chris Brown from America might be happening. He added "I think it is time for the international artist also to recognize what we are doing in Namibia"

Although Dixon did not work with any local artist on his current album, Dixon also added, "I am super keen to work with Namibian artists especially the ones who are supporting my movement without me asking them"
